Kabori, the ‘Mishti Meye’ of Bangladeshi cinema, has not been with us for two years now. On April 17, 2021, the actress left this world behind after a long battle with COVID. Among her many timeless films are “Sutorang”, “Heeraramon”, “Sujon Sokhi”, “Moina Moti”, “Chorabali”, “Binimoy”, “Rangbaz”, “Sareng Bou”, “Bahana”, and “Titash Ekti Nadir Naam”, just to name a few.
Today is the 2nd death anniversary of the iconic heroine of “Masud Rana”, Kabori. Speaking to The Daily Star about her, Sohel Rana reminisced about her memory during the film’s production.
Sarah Begum Kabori, famously called Mishti Meye, is an immortal name in terms of the silver screen. She began her journey into the world of cinema with Subhash Dutta’s “Sutorang” at the age of 13. The legendary actress literally penetrated into the hearts of the audience with stellar performances in "Sujon Sokhi" and "Sareng Bou".
At a very young age, she moved to Dhaka from Chattogram. The then Mina Pal did not aspire to become an actress. Dancing was her passion, and she dreamt of becoming a dancer. Nevertheless, that was not what was in store for her. Call it luck or poverty; she was brought her to the doors of the silver screens. And once she stepped inside, there was no looking back.
