Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed a new law that will help law enforcement find missing Black women and children.

For the first time in the nation's history, a statewide system will alert motorists of missing Black youths and women, beginning Jan. 1. The "Ebony Alert" law enables the California Highway Patrol to authorize alerts made through the changeable message signs along freeways.

Thanks to the new law, California will reportedly be the first state to create an alert notification system to specifically address missing Black children and women.
