Sgt. Volavola, a native of Fiji who was raised in Nabitu Village in Tailevu, attended LDS Church College from 1998-2004 and returned as a guest speaker on March 4. He met with students in years 12 and 13 who are preparing to move into college or trade school professions at a school career day. The theme of Sgt. Volavola’s remarks was opportunity. “Be open to opportunities and opportunities will open doors for you,” he told the youth. He spoke about how his life experiences were changed by the opportunities he took. From going on his LDS Mission to Northern California, USA to his application for a senior management position at the Polynesian Cultural Center in Hawaii, USA.

1 U.S. EMBASSY KOROR The 9th Mission Support Command’s Task Force Oceania Team Palau helped the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Embassy at Koror carry out Operation Christmas Drop 2020. The success of OCD 20 was the result of months of planning and coordination between the U.S. military, the State Department, and several Pacific island countries. Task Force Oceania’s Team Palau worked closely with local government officials in Koror, Kayangel, Anguar, Peleliu, Tobi, Sonsorol, and Pulo Anna islands to ensure the local communities would be ready to receive the Christmas bundles of food, tools, clothing, and toys.

Army Reservist finds missing child after more than five-hour search on Guam

BURKE | STARS AND STRIPES Published: January 14, 2021 An Army Reservist on Guam earned his unit’s recognition for finding a child who went missing for several hours in Yigo late last month. Sgt. Cody Robinett, of the 3303rd Mobilization Support Battalion, first heard about the missing girl through a WhatsApp group chat on Dec. 28, according to a 9th Mission Support Command statement Tuesday. He immediately joined the search and, more than five hours later, found the girl atop the roof of her family’s home. “I could tell she was scared when we found her,” Robinett said in the statement. “She appeared to be in good health, and I was only able to conduct an initial assessment before we got her off the roof.”
