PORT ALLEN - Two parish presidents are working to keep $500 million in Gov. John Bel Edwards s proposed budget to kick off construction on a new Mississippi River bridge.
BATON ROUGE - Months after East Baton Rouge officials butted heads with Iberville Parish President Mitch Ourso over the ripple effects of Ourso s flood prevention measures, the two parishes are partnering for a joint flood prevention project in one of the area s major problem spots.

ST. GABRIEL, La- A state supreme court decision late in the week will allow Iberville Parish to continue to block south-flowing floodwater with temporary blockades called AquaDams.
Days earlier, a judge in Baton Rouge granted a request from East Baton Rouge officials to force Iberville to stop using the dams out of fear the system would push water back into the Baton Rouge area. Â
The ruling came with what the Iberville Parish President believed was a gotcha meeting with the governor where Gov. John Bel Edwards summoned Ascension, East Baton Rouge and Iberville officials to a meeting to discuss the situation in the immediate days after Monday s flooding rain.

BAYOU PIGEON - Saturday brought more flooding concerns to the close-knit, bayou community that s overrun with worry after an AquaDam breach flooded roads and some homes and businesses Friday.
WBRZ.com was first to report news of the breach and an urgent evacuation issued Friday before lunchtime in the Iberville Parish community. By the end of the day, the breach was controlled.
Saturday, though, water had overtopped flood control lines on the east side of Hwy. 75. Water was seen rising in some low areas Saturday.
