Pair graduating from both schools, looking ahead to future careers

Mitchell High School alum Trey Draper returned to the school Wednesday to hand out $3,000 in scholarships.

On Friday, News 5 learned that two juveniles were shot near Mitchell High School.

Taylor Hughes was convicted of statutory rape in 2010. He spent 10 years living his life to the letter of the law so he could eventually have his name struck from the sex offender registry.

Sam Fosness joined the Mitchell Republic in May 2018. He was raised in Mitchell, S.D., and graduated from Mitchell High School. He continued his education at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, where he graduated in 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a minor in English. During his time in college, Fosness worked as a news and sports reporter for The Volante newspaper.
