Investigations are underway after two crashes Tuesday morning near local schools. Two cars collided on the north end of the city near Pine Creek High School. Among the cases heard Tuesday was a Mitchell man who was sentenced to serve eight years in prison for violating probation after using a synthetic drug that tested positive for cocaine.

Another $24,000 in challenge grants was allocated. One group already met their challenge.

“I’m just excited to get going with the school year. We have a lot of great things going on,” said Joe Childs, superintendent for the Mitchell School District.

Among the cases heard was a man who allegedly told officers there was an explosive device in his vehicle while being transported to jail, resulting in a search that uncovered a mushroom candy bar.
