NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday reiterated that the provisions made in the new farm laws are optional, nothing is compulsory and the old system still continues. He also emphasised that the wholesale markets and the system of minimum support price (MSP) have not been discontinued after enactment of the new agri laws.
While replying in the Lok Sabha to the discussion on motion of thanks on the President s address, the Prime Minister said the government empathises with the protesting farmers. “We are open to modifications in farm laws if that is in the greater interest of farmers,” he said.
