Last week, Monadnock Sno-Moles volunteer Jim Fafard and Joel Proulx donated their time to repair a snowmobile bridge crossing that had been damaged by a vehicle trying to cross it – something that can be a perennial problem for those volunteers who spend their time trying to keep the trails passable for winter riders.
Fafard, who has been a volunteer with the local snowmobiling club for 20 years, said he, Proulx, and Fafard’s apprentice Justin Thibault replaced the decking on the bridge, located on a trail alongside the power lines off Perry Road in Rindge.
The club receives some reimbursement for their materials and equipment to maintain more than 100 miles of trail throughout southern New Hampshire, including Jaffrey, Rindge, Fitzwilliam, Troy, and New Ipswich, but the majority their time and most of their materials to keep the local trails rideable are a simple labor of love from those who use them, Fafard said.
