morn morning. in kentucky, rescues are under way. the state is reeling from flooding that claimed 28 lives including at least four children. rescue teams are desperately searching for victims in areas that have been hard to reach. the scenes in kentucky are horrific. floodwaters lifting homes off foundations. more than 50 bridges washed away. with the level of water, we re going to be looking at weeks. many houses swept quarter mile plus from where they were lost. water, a big problem with some of these areas. power. when we get over the rain, it s going to be really hot in the next week. so we re still in an emergency phase. let s go now to evan mcmorris santoro. he is live in hazard, kentucky. heartbreaking what we learned over the weekend out of kentucky, evan. tell us what you re seeing there now. i m standing on the side of highway 28 in perry county, kentucky, one of more than a dozen counties severely affected by these flash floods. as you can see, there is rain
and the rain continues, a flood watch is in effect for southern and eastern kentucky. the floodwaters, you see the devastation there. the floodwaters lifting homes off their foundations, washing them away. the governor and the people of eastern kentucky just reeling from the sheer scope of this tragedy. a lot of people are still trapped up in there, going on three days now, no food, no water. i take what i can on the atvs, a lot of other people are doing the same thing. the house is gone. they just washed away. we don t know how many is missing at this point. we know that there are bodies that we are still processing. and when you see the devastation of this flooding that have carried houses hundreds of yards, if not more, we know we ll still be finding people sadly in the days to come. as we mentioned, still some concerns about the forecast. let s get the latest forecast for the region. any relief in sight? reporter: it looks like on tuesday we get relief here. unf

good morning. and welcome to way too early. on this monday, august 1st. i m jonathan lemire. thanks for being with us. we begin with the situation in ukraine. in a significant breakthrough this morning, a ship carrying ukrainian grain set off from the port of odesa to for the first time since the war started back in february. ukraine s minister of infrastructure tweeted this video of the vessel which is carrying more than 26,000 tons of corn and is on its way to lebanon. the ship is expected to reach istanbul on tuesday where it will be inspected before being allowed to proceed. the move is part of an internationally brokered deal between kyiv and moscow, to release millions of tons of grain to foreign markets, and ease a growing food crisis. ukrainian officials say 16 more ships are waiting to depart odesa s port as part of that deal. meanwhile, russia advances have slowed, almost to a standstill, as newly-delivered western weapons are helping ukrainian forces re-claim
