on 880 near the oakland coliseum traffic moving along nicely at this hour. 5:00 on the nose. let s head out live to jade hernandez who is standing by at the san mateo bridge to tell us who is going on. reporter: they don t know yet. cal tran isn t for sure. i can step out of the way and show you the bridge this morning. commuters should expect a 30 minute delay. one of the westbound lanes is coned off while crews work. they try to fix a ten inch crack. workers discovered the crack located in a steel girder that allows the bridge to move back and fourth during an earthquake on wednesday. the gridder was installed during a cal tran spokesman explained the difference between this crack and the bay bridge. we are talking about two different components on two different bridges. the i-bar that is suspension cable. this is part of what supports the road deck. and also this beam plays ann important role in the seismic retro fit. reporter: they tell me the beam will not be
tori campbell is off today. caltrans is hoping to finish emergency repairs today to the san mateo bridge in time for tonight s commute. the agency found a crack in a support beam on the westbound side. crews closed one of three westbound lanes for repairs. caltrans says they discovered this problem during a routine inspection yesterday. the crack is about 10 inches on a wishbone-shaped beam where the elevation portion of the beam begins. one silver lining is the inspection worked. the good news is that the lane closure did not cause much of a traffic backup this morning. officials are advising commuters to take the bay bridge or the dumbarton bridge to help with the traffic flow. authorities say they have arrested two people responsible for setting a fire to a san jose elementary school. police made the announcement at a late-morning news conference. claudine wong was there and join us live with new details on the arrest. reporter: we know two teenagers are in custo
