The Acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has maintained that the police authority cannot afford to remove police stop and search checkpoints from highways across the country. The Acting police said this in a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, in response to concerns over security on highways. There have also been reports of police extortion at checkpoints.
