Before COVID-19, a majority of the kids in the JUMP program were referred by or informed about the program through teachers and school counselors. Due to the changes in the school system to help with the safety of the adults and youth alike, referrals have been down. The need for kids to have a positive role model in their life is still there but the word is not getting out!

Spring might be right around the corner, but winter is really trying to go out with a bang. It was another busy week in Montgomery County. VOLUNTEERS AT the Save A Lot building vaccination site were presently surprised recently at the end of their shift when several Brothers pizzas appeared. They were courtesy of the members of American Legion Post 72 who wanted to show their support of the numerous volunteers who have worked many hours assisting in the smooth running of the vaccination site. Amber Reed from the Montgomery County Health Department said the volunteers were indeed surprised and grateful for the show of support. Thanks to the generously of the Legion, pizzas will continue to appear at the end

Photo provided As we settle in to the new year and either break or keep up with our resolutions take some time to look back at all of the news of the week. It was another busy week in Montgomery County. THE BOARD of Commissioners have hired Mike Davis to the new position of Mapping Director. Mike was serving as the Geographic Information Coordinator for the County. Mike has worked for the County for 24 years. He started as Chief Deputy in the Surveyor’s Office where he was responsible for digitizing the legal drains in the County. He then worked in the Building Department as a building inspector and helped created the Mapping Division which was responsible for creating digital maps for properties in the County.

At the Montgomery County Youth Service Bureau, the JUMP program would like to do just that. The JUMP program is a mentoring program similar to the Big Brother/Big Sister program where an adult volunteer is matched with a youth from our community. They spend time together every week and they become friends and a source of support for each other. Although the pandemic has made meeting face to face more difficult, some continue to meet face to face wearing masks while others h

Paper photo by Jennifer Callis Boy Scout Troop 318 held their weekly Troop meeting at Walmart Monday night. The boys participated in the Montgomery County Youth Service Bureaus’ REINdear program. Each boy was given a card that specified a child’s need and want for Christmas, and along with a budget they set out to shop for the perfect gifts. The Troop also generously donated toys to the Indiana National Guard OPERATION: TOYBOX box located at The Papers’ office.
