Lynchburg’s iconic Monument Terrace has changed a great deal through the years, starting with its creation in the early 1880s as an improvement to the “Ninth Street Steps.”
There are never enough ways to say thank you to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice, but one local group did their part today to show their gratitude. For one 92-year-old World War II veteran, he remembers his fellow soldier this Memorial Day. “He’s next to me and he gets it," Dan Villareal said. "It really hurt me. I did cry like a baby as we were there. Why him? But that’s what happens. It’s something you have no control over. ”
