Yes, there's a moon tree growing right here in the Lone Star State.

Yes, it is a real Moon Tree and it's growing right here in the Lone Star State. The Moon Trees were a joint effort between NASA and the U.S. Forrest Service.

Education and community organizations can apply to receive a living piece of spaceflight history to promote science, technology, engineering, and mathematics: a seedling grown from a tree seed that flew around the Moon on the NASA’s Artemis I mission in late 2022.

2000 Moon tree seedlings will be planted throughout the US by 2024. This set includes 5 species that were taken aboard NASA's Artemis I mission. Read more here.

It’s part of a project to connect space exploration with life on Earth.

NASA is giving education and community organizations the opportunity to receive seedlings that flew around the moon on NASA's Artemis I mission in 2022. The seedlings were grown from tree seeds of five different species, including sycamores, sweetgums, Douglas-firs, loblolly pines, and giant sequoias.

NASA and the USDA Forest Service are taking applications from those hopeful to grow their own “Moon Tree,” a seedling that was once as much as 270,000 miles away from Earth while stowed away on the Artemis I moon mission.
