It’s been less than a week since India’s Chandrayaan-3 mission became the first to touch down on the Moon’s south pole, and its lander is wasting no time collecting valuable data from the unexplored region.

ISRO on Sunday released a graph of the temperature variation on the lunar surface and a senior scientist of the space agency expressed surprise over the high temperature recorded on the Moon. The national space agency said Chandras Surface Thermophysical Experiment (ChaSTE) payload onboard Chandrayaan-3s Vikram lander measured the temperature profile of the lunar topsoil around the pole to understand the thermal behaviour of the Moons surface.

India’s lunar lander deployed a tiny six-wheeled rover to traverse the moon’s surface and analyze the chemical composition of the soil.
