The European Union (EU) and Sri Lanka held their 23rd meeting of the Joint Commission on 25 January 2021, via video conference. This was the first Joint Commission under the new leadership in both the European Union and Sri Lanka.
The Joint Commission meeting, held in a cordial and open atmosphere wih the EU and Sri Lanka exchanging views on a wide array of subjects, reaffirming the deep cooperation ties and the willingness to strengthen the relationship between the people of the EU and Sri Lanka further.

The National Council for the Protection of the Eastern Terminal of the Ports Authority has decided to launch a trade union action from next Friday.
This was decided when the council met today.
They have also decided that Sri Lanka should retain 100% ownership of the Eastern Terminal of the Colombo Port.
Meanwhile, the Indian Sri Lanka People's Cooperation Foundation and several civil society organizations staged a silent protest in front of the Indian High Commission in Kandy today in protest of the agrrment of the Eastern Terminal of the Colombo Port.
