Lake girls basketball applied its patented full court pressure in the second half to win its Northern Buckeye Conference opener at Otsego, 40-36, Thursday.The Flyers, trailing 16-10 at the half, outscored the Knights 30-20 in the second half, eventually tying the game on a three-point goal by sophomore forward Kaydence Eckenrode with three minutes remaining.After trailing since early in the first quarter, Lake freshman guard Brooke Wiley was fouled after receiving an inbounds pass and trying to score in the paint, giving the Flyers a 37-35 lead with 2:05 on the clock and they never trailed again.
Otsego junior Samantha Lehr scored the game-winner on a layup at the buzzer as the Knights opened the season by defeating North Baltimore, 37-35.Lehr’s bucket came after a NB turnover, leading to a timeout called by Otsego coach Eric Simon with 10.2 seconds remaining and the game tied at 35-35.
