in the same poll, the president is leading mitt romney 53% to 43%. a ten-point spread. and he leads rick santorum by 11 points, 53% to 42%. a lot can happen before november, but right now it s clear. the republican candidates do not have a credible answer to this. over the last two years, american businesses have created 3.7 million new jobs. manufacturers are hiring for the first time since the 1990s. the auto industry is back. our recovery is gaining speed, and the economy is getting stronger. and we ve got to do everything we can to make sure that we sustain this progress. joining me now is ted strickland, former ohio governor and co-chair of president obama s re-election campaign. and joe madison, host of mornings with madison on sirius xm radio. thanks to both of you for coming on the show tonight.
republican elite. these are the views being welcomed on one of the gop s biggest events of the year. joining me now is michael keegan, president of the progressive group people for the american way. he s calling on gop presidential candidates to denounce the presence of this white journalist and joe madison of mornings with madison on sirius xm radio. thank you both for being here. thank you. mr. keegan, let me ask you, how can a guy like this be allowed to speak at the conference and not be denounced by the leaders there? it s a good question. if this is how you start your conference, then what does it mean about this entire thing with cpac? i think the key thing and what we have called for is that newt gingrich, rick santorum and mitt romney should really speak out against it because there really should be no place for this type of dialogue in politics today.
sure they do. your policies fail and our policies work. what is this policy? reprimanding them saying they don t have role models in their community is a policy? saying the only things they see is crime is a policy? let me tell you a story. what is this policy? why not just try freedom and free enterprise. that everybody in america we have a common culture. you have the white house eight years under reagan. another four under bush sr. and eight more under bush jr. so you didn t have an opportunity to have a program? people prospered in those years. african-americans disproportionately suffered under every one of them. african-americans were doubly unemployed under every one of them. show us the program that you had that you claim worked. i m still waiting on that answer and that plan. joining me now is joe madison, host of mornings with madison on sirius xm radio. and back with us, alex wagner,
barack obama than any president in american history. that s just not true, newt. these are the facts. under president bush, there were 14.7 million new food stamp recipients. that s nearly 500,000 more than under president obama, newt. and now 40 catholic leaders have sent a letter to newt demanding he recant these statements. they say, quote, labeling our nation s first african-american president with a title that evokes past myths of welfare queen and inflaming other racist caricatures is irresponsible, immoral and unworthy of political leaders. joining me now is joe madison, host of mornings with madison on sirius xm radio. thanks for being here, joe. why do you have all the fun, man? you get to have all the fun with newt, but you are telling the
okay in cases of rape and incest. we see it on the issue of immigration where the dream act is treated as an insult, and we see it on entitlements where they want to obliterate reform and change them totally. but on the other side of the fence is the president of the united states, barack obama, fighting to get something done while republicans stay further and further away from the mainstream. joining me now, joe madison, host of mornings with madison on sirius xm radio and msnbc analyst richard wolffe, author of revival, the struggle for survival inside the obama white house. thank you both for being here tonight. thanks, reverend. richard, how out of step are these republicans with what americans want? well, out of step that they ve helped a president who is still struggling with high unemployment improve his approval ratings. he s gone from the low 40s to
