I moved back home to Porirua from Tāmaki in late 2019 to accept a role as Curator Māori Pacific at Pātaka Art Museum. The shift was spurred by some personal factors, but one professional one too: comprising over a quarter of the population, Moana peoples are significant stakeholders in Porirua. Growing up in the city, however, I didn’t know our arts community. I only engaged with Moana art after leaving Porirua. Moving home felt like it forced attention on if, when, where and how Moana art and Moana audiences meet.
