A pumped hydroelectricity plant near Gympie is being considered by the Queensland government to generate renewable energy for the expanding Sunshine Coast.
Pumped hydro plants generate power by allowing water from an elevated dam to flow quickly downhill and through a turbine to a lower dam. The water is pumped back to the higher reservoir for the process to be repeated.
Borumba Dam near Gympie is being further assessed as a potential solar-hydro plant.
