Courtesy photo MOUNT GILEAD — A performer known the world over for his escape artistry, magic and humor is coming here Saturday, May 22. Michael Griffin, aka The Escape Guy, is a featured performer at Downtown Days, sponsored by The Mount Gilead Merchants Association. This is the first in a series of Downtown Days celebrations designed to bring visitors into the village. He will perform at noon. Griffin “combines intensely original magic and impossible escapes,” according to his web site.

Contact morrowchamber.com for details. • The Morrow County Genealogical Society will hold its monthly meeting on May 22 at the New Life Assembly of God, 290 Lincoln Ave., Mount Gilead. Kevin Evans shares the incredible story of Dr. Nathan Tucker. Dr. Tucker, world famous as inventor of his Asthma Specific treatment, was a successful businessman and philanthropist. He built several of the buildings on Main Street and was very active in the community. Meeting is at 2 p.m. and open to the public. Masks and social distancing required.

Downtown Days starts May 22 By Anthony Conchel - aconchel@aimmediamidwest.com MOUNT GILEAD — The Mount Gilead Merchants Association has some fresh ideas to bring visitors downtown starting with the first Downtown Days. Entertainment and sales are planned for Saturday, May 22, according to Kate Stuttler, co-owner of The Village Gathering Place. “We have collaboratively come together with local businesses to form this association and bringing together the community and traffic to local businesses.” Downtown Days is one Saturday per month, starting next week. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. “Look for the dates listed on the light poles around the main square. We will have sidewalk sales, area restaurants having specials and entertainment for the family,” Stuttler said.
