Monday afternoon firefighters responded to two new fire starts both on the Crescent Ranger District of the Deschutes National Forest. Incident #756, the Bobby Lake Fire was reported just after 5 p.m. The fire was burning in timber approximately one mile east of Bobby Lake and four miles southeast of Waldo Lake. Several aerial resources responded including air attack, air tankers, helicopters and rappellers. As of 8:30 p.m. firefighters on-scene reported that fire activity had decreased, and the fire was primarily creeping and smoldering. Airtankers were successful in getting retardant around the perimeter of the Bobby Lake Fire before dark. The fire was staffed with 12 rappellers who remained on-scene overnight. Three additional crews and a load of smokejumpers are expected to arrive Tuesday. A dedicated Type-1 helicopter will be available from the Crescent Airstrip.
