Mount Veeder winery wins Napa County approval

Aaron and Claire Pott have secured Napa County permission to build their Chateauneuf-du-Pott winery on the forested slopes of Mount Veeder despite a scattering of opposition. The Planning Commission last week approved the 20,000-gallon-a-year winery. The planned 4,638-square-foot building at 2072 Mount Veeder Road will replace a house and barn that burned in the 2017 Nuns fire. “I want to support small, family-owned wineries,” Commissioner Megan Dameron said. “In this case, the Pott family lives on Mount Veeder. They have vines and farm on Mount Veeder. And now they wish to have their small family winery on Mount Veeder.” The Potts talked about their winery plans.

Napa County plans big push this year to repair local roads

Napa County is embarking on a $25 million road-fixing push in the unincorporated areas outside of cities during 2021 that is unprecedented in recent memory. “Roughly double as compared to 2020, and that was a bigger year than any previous,” Public Works Director Steven Lederer said. Some of the projects will be on widely traveled roads, such as Silverado Trail. Many will be off-the-beaten track, amid the forests of Mount Veeder, the chaparral of Soda Canyon and the vineyards and rural homes of Coombsville. Update: Car chase that started in Fairfield ends in the hills west of Napa

A marathon car chase that started in Fairfield early Saturday afternoon ended in rural Napa County, more than 30 miles away, with a police K-9's bite, the California Highway Patrol reported. The incident began shortly before 2 p.m. when Fairfield Police tried to pull over a sedan for a traffic violation, Fairfield Police said. The driver was seen throwing baggies of his vehicle as he went onto Interstate 80. CHP ground units and a helicopter based at the Napa County Airport tracked the fleeing car through Jameson Canyon/Highway 12, then into the city of Napa.
