Mumbai guardian minister hints at partial lockdown soon | Mumbai News

MUMBAI: As fresh cases in the city hit a 131-day high of 1,361, the guardian minister for the island city, Aslam Shaikh, told TOI on Sunday that a partial lockdown could be imposed if the viral spread was not brought under control in eight to ten days. Covid-19 cases in the state spiked beyond 11,000 on Sunday, hitting a 142-day high of 11,141. The public health department gave a presentation before the cabinet chaired by CM Uddhav Thackeray, who expressed concern over the increasing number of cases in many districts, with the active caseloads of some as high as the peak period of September. Sources said the possibility of a partial lockdown was discussed.

According to publicly available data, Maharashtra appears to be reporting the highest number of daily new cases by state – 11,141 in the last 24 hours and 21,328 in the last 48 – followed by Kerala (2,100), Punjab (1,043), Karnataka (622), Gujarat (575) and Tamil Nadu (567). The country as a whole reported 18,650 new cases. Some 1.85 lakh cases are currently designated ‘active’.

The night clubs namely, R Adda in Juhu and Barrel Mansion in Vile Parle, not just operated beyond 3 am but also flouted all social distancing and pandemic norms. According to the Times of India report, he said that out of 1,200 cases that were detected in the country s financial capital on Wednesday, 83% of cases were asymptomatic and none of them were critical. The municipal commissioner has also asked the private hospitals to not admit any patients who do not have any Covid-19 symptoms.
