Mumbai COVID-19: BMC seals 1,169 buildings, identifies 97 areas as containment zones

As COVID-19 cases are soaring in Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has sealed 1,169 buildings and identified 97 areas as containment zones. This comes at a time when Maharashtra on Friday recorded 63,729 new COVID-19 infections and the second-highest death toll of 398, with the state jumping past the 37 lakh mark.
The BMC has also sealed a total of 10,797 floors in the city to break the chain of the transmission. As per the guidelines issued by BMC, any housing society having more than five active COVID-19 cases will be sealed and treated as a micro-containment zone . The BMC has warned of imposing fines if found violating its norms.
