In what is making for an exceptionally warm April with the city witnessing record shattering temperatures, Mumbai has witnessed five heatwave days in the month of April so far, including a 'severe heatwave' alert sounded on April 16.
The weather bureau sounds a heatwave alert after the maximum temperatures hover over 37 degrees in the coastal regions, and soar above 40 degrees in the interiors of Maharashtra.
Responding to questions, Sushma Nair, scientist from IMD Mumbai said, "Currently, Mumbai is experiencing high temperatures owing to the easterlies. The transition from winter has now commenced. "
