Several hundred people gathered on Parliament Hill on Saturday before marching through downtown and calling for an independent investigation into Canada’s residential schools.
The protest was organized by NDP MPs Charlie Angus, who represents Timmins-James Bay, and Mumilaaq Qaqqaq, who represents Nunavut.

The rally proceeded to the Prime Minister’s Office and the federal justice department chanting, “No Justice, No Peace!”
On July 8, Qaqqaq and Angus called for the appointment of a special prosecutor into the residential schools after unmarked graves were found at school sites across Canada.
