Carolyn C Cavaness The first female pastor in Bethel AME Church’s 125-year history, Rev. Carolyn C. Cavaness may serve 135 congregants in Ardmore. But her outreach has impacted as many as 3,000 a lot of them through the church’s community garden and the over 30 at-home versions she helped sprout during COVID-19’s first 50 days. “That’s my heart,” says Cavaness. “You walk by our garden at the church, and in the midst of death and destruction, we see life happening.”

Neighbors Helping Neighbors Feeds, Educates During Pandemic

(Neighbors Helping Neighbors on the Main Line) LOWER MERION, PA Muneera Walker was working on the U.S. Census last year when the coronavirus pandemic hit. Not long afterward, she saw her neighbors struggling to feed themselves and their families and the former general contracting business owner sprung into action. Walker, already an avid volunteer, launched Neighbors Helping Neighbors On the Main Line, a nonprofit group originally focused on food insecurity in Lower Merion. Since March 2020, the group has delivered food weekly to 60 families in Lower Merion Township and another 50 in Philadelphia.
