The Wall Street Journal reports that the company could file for bankruptcy as early as this weekend and recently hired Boston-based law firm Murphy & King to prepare the filing, according to people familiar with the matter.

It was just last year that Christmas Tree Shops announced it was rebranding and opening 15 new locations, but it appears plans have changed.

The family business that was started on Cape Cod over 50 years ago now has 83 locations across the eastern United States.
