lockdown. this is because there were shots fired on campus. we don t know by whom but we do know by the website the suspect is described as a white male wearing gray sweat pants, a gray hat with a neon brim and some type of maroon hoodie and also carrying a pack back. apparently the suspect is on foot. we don t know how many shots were fired. but as you know, virginia tech certainly on high alert in the years following the 2007 incident. there were no classes there are no classes today. the finals are supposed to take place tomorrow. we ll see what happens today but this was basically a study day, read-in day for the students there. so maybe that is a good thing. maybe they were all in their rooms or in the library studying at this point. many of them may not be out on the campus walking around. as you probably recall, back in 2007, in two separate attacks, about two hours apart, the shooter in that case killed 32 people and wounded 25 years before committing suicide on tha
that the nation has been on brink of this kind of crisis. let s go straight to capitol hill, our congressional current kate bolduan baldwin is standing by. the ability to finally fand a way out of this impasse and to avoid this looming government shut down and how this could all come out has to do with the big focus on the fema funding. the additional funding for federal disaster relief that democrats and republicans wanted to put in this short term spending bill. fema came out today to confirm that different from their prior predictions, that fema may be able to stretch their disaster relief funds that are much depleted and could run out, but they said they could stretch the funds through the end of this week. this is different than prior predictions which many had said would be depleted by the beginning of this week. in a statement, i will read you just in part, wolf, quote, estimates from over the weekend indicate the disaster relief fund could be fully exhausted by the
martha: all right. let s get to politics now for a moment here. a chicago newspaper has a pretty stark message this morning in their editorial page for president obama. basically, they re sayg just bag the campaign now, and it is coming from the chicago tribune, his home town paper endorsed mr. obama back in 2008, but this time around the editorial board is singing a very different tune. this is a quote from it, quote, i checked the constitution, and he is under no compulsion to run for reelection. he can scrap the campaign, bag it, fundraising calls, an never have to watch another republican debate as long as he s willing to vacate the premiseses by january 2013. that s a pretty harsh message for a sitting president in his home town newspaper. we re joined to talk about this, sally cohen, founder of movement vision.org, karen henretty is communications director for the national republican congressional committee. karen, welcome to you, good
