New Delhi, June 3 : The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has approved two home-based Rapid Antigen Test kits, to be used only in symptomatic individuals and immediate contacts of laboratory confirmed positive cases.
Accordingly, the ICMR has approved CoviSelf, manufactured by Mylab Discovery Solutions Ltd, Pune, and the PanBio COVID-19 Antigen Rapid Test Device, devloped by Chicago-based Abbott Rapid Diagnostics. The latter s provisional approval has been accorded till July 5, 2021. Indiscriminate testing is not advised. Home testing should be conducted as per the procedure described by the manufacturer in the user manual. Home testing by RAT is advised only in symptomatic individuals and immediate contacts of laboratory confirmed positive cases, the ICMR said.

Despite several neighbouring countries facing a shortage of vaccines promised by India, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Thursday that priority would be given to domestic needs.
Answering a spate of questions in this regard, MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi referred to a media interaction with the Foreign Secretary late last month where he had expressed confidence that in the next two to three months, there should be a “very, very significant increase” in the production and availability of vaccines.

Indian Council for Medical Research has approved India s first home-based self-testing kit called CovidSelf for Covid-19, using the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) method.
This kit is developed by Pune-based Mylab Discovery Solutions Ltd. The ICMR also issued an advisory stating that the CovidSelf kit should only be used on individuals having symptoms.
Availability
Mylab Director Sujeet Jain said CoviSelf will be available in India by end of next week in more than 7 lakh pharmacies and through its online pharmacy partners across the nation.
Though the current production capacity is 70 lakh test kits per week, the company is planning to increase this number to 1 crore tests per week.

However, the country s apex health research body has advised that should be used only on symptomatic individuals and on immediate contacts of laboratory-confirmed positive cases. Indiscriminate testing is not advised, said the ICMR.
According to ICMR, only a nasal swab will be required for this rapid antigen testing and the kit has been manufactured by Mylab Discovery Solutions Ltd, Pune.
