AP High Court To Issue Notices To SEC, Chandrababu Over Manifesto Release During Panchayat Polls Mar 09, 2021, 17:25 IST
AMARAVATI: A writ petition has been filed in the Andhra Pradesh High Court against the manifesto released by the Leader of the Opposition and TDP Chief N Chandrababu Naidu during the Panchayat elections.
The High Court on Tuesday held a hearing on the petition. Counsel for the petitioner told the court that the State Election Commission (SEC) had not taken any action despite Chandrababu releasing the manifesto contrary to the election rules.
The High Court agreed to issue notices to Chandrababu along with the SEC. The High Court adjourned the case and posted the matter for hearing on May 31.
Complaints can be registered on 0866-2466877, the commission’s 24x7 call centre. State Election Commissioner N. Ramesh Kumar said in a press release that electioneering involving ward volunteers for the elections to Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) is prohibited and constitutes an electoral offence in violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
Mr. Kumar said complaints can be registered on 0866-2466877, the commission’s 24x7 call centre, and action would be taken immediately. Complaints can also be mailed to secy.apsec2@gmail.com. Complaints can be registered with District Collectors and Municipal Commissioners concerned.
Besides, written complaints can be lodged with the election officers.
