The Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) has issued an Environmental Protection Order (EPO) to Messrs Creek Marina Builders and Developers, directing the company to suspend construction of a building on Abdul Sattar Edhi Avenue in Defence Housing Authority phase-VIII, it emerged on Tuesday.
According to the EPO, the company has been served the notice over its failure to file the mandatory environmental impact assessment (EIA), as required by the law.
Besides, SEPA director-general Naeem Ahmed Mughal has maintained in the EPO that the builder in question was offered an opportunity of a personal hearing on February 15, 2021, to submit a reply over the company s non-compliance with the SEPA Act, 2014.

The Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) has expressed its disapproval of the car and cement manufacturing plants over non-compliance with green laws and in this regard the authority has also fixed separate hearings to inquire about the position of companies.
SEPA Director General Naeem Ahmed Mughal visited different automobile industrial units on Tuesday, including that of Kia Motors and Master Motors, to inspect whether their operations were consistent with the Sindh Environmental Protection Act 2014 and its rules.
Environmental watchdog has attempted to curtail pollution of waterways for past six years but to no avail

For the past six years the Sindh Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) has been unsuccessfully, and arguably half-heartedly, trying to stop pollution of waterways from the industries in Hyderabad s SITE area. On Saturday, a meeting of SEPA in Hyderabad, chaired by its director general, Naeem Ahmed Mughal, issued a renewed warning to seal industries if they fail to install the in-house effluent treatment plants.
A statement issued after the meeting stated that the officials have decided to take action, under Sindh Environment Protection Act 2014, against the polluters.

The Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (Sepa), while taking serious view of the adverse environmental practices of a manufacturer of batteries in the Keamari district, has issued it with an environmental protection order (EPO) and summoned its management for a personal hearing at the environmental watchdog’s office.
A Sepa official said on Saturday that following directives from adviser on law and environment Barrister Murtaza Wahab, Sepa conducted surprise inspections at various industrial units in the SITE area, where its monitoring team identified improper storage, usage of hazardous materials and environmentally unfriendly operations of a battery and sulphuric acid plant of a company.
