A presentation on the Eagle Harbor Superfund construction schedule, public input opportunities, plans for public access when it’s done, and public concerns and mediation efforts will take place at the Bainbridge Island City Council meeting March 26.
The Bainbridge Island community gathered at the Japanese American Exclusion Memorial March 30 to remember the 227 residents who were forcibly removed 81 years ago.
On the island, it meant the mass forced removal on March 30, 1942, of 227 Japanese Americans. Days earlier, more than four dozen other Japanese Americans had been arrested by the FBI; or had moved to Moses Lake, which was not in an exclusion zone; or were serving in the military. Two-thirds of those removed were U.S. citizens.
