Oregon City voters pick Rachel Lyles Smith for mayor
Five candidates appear on March 9 special election ballot to replace official recalled in November.
Oregon City Commissioner Rachel Lyles Smith will step up to become the city s mayor, according to unofficial March 9 election results showing her with a commanding lead.
Lyles Smith took 42% of the vote, 12 percentage points more than any of the four other candidates, in a special election with 27% voter turnout. By comparison, 52% of voters turned out for November s special recall election.
City commissioners were in a work session when the results came in, but they took a break from the meeting to congratulate Lyles Smith for her victory as mayor-elect.
