Talk Abstract: For several decades, my collaborators, students, and I have worked on theory for distributed systems in order to understand their capabilities and limitations in a rigorous, mathematical way. This work has produced many different kinds of results, including:
• Abstract models for problems that are solved by distributed systems, and for the algorithms used to solve them
• Rigorous proofs of algorithm correctness and performance properties (also some error discoveries),
• Impossibility results and lower bounds, expressing inherent limitations of distributed systems,
• Some new algorithms, and
• General mathematical foundations for modeling and analyzing distributed systems.

During the Vietnam war, Delaware Morning News journalist Nancy Lynch encouraged soldiers serving there to send her letters detailing their experiences. The Morning News, which eventually merged with the Evening Journal to become the News Journal, published many of the letters in a collection called Vietnam Mailbag.
This postcard was from a soldier named Bill who wrote that he had written a longer letter but hadn’t yet mailed it. The back side of the card finishes the question posed by Lucy on this front side of the card. It says: “You should have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!” We couldn’t agree more with Lucy’s professional advice.
to address a notice of violation that was issued in response to a complaint filed by half lan hoffman. he filed a complaint, a violation was issued, plans were drawn up to correct the complaint, they were taken to the building department and approved. only subsequently was that suspended in order for this to be brought for him to be notified. is there any other public comment on the item as it relates to the continuance. mr. hoffman, you may not speak again. thank you. i m former president of liberty hill neighborhood association and we this is the first time i have seen the project sponsor. i wish that they had come before us. just wanted to mention that there hasn t been a lot of although this seems like a trivial problem, in the neighborhood it s very serious. i just waited a long time to testify to this. we are very beset by scavengers in the neighborhood and i was going to describe that. are you in favor or not of the continuance? i m kind of neutral on t
the point here really was if you re going to do a major renovation to the first floor of the building, there s an opportunity to do something which is permanent and which really meets the guidelines of the planning code about keeping the front setbacks clear and that s as far as i m concerned, that s the bottom line. i think that should be done. i don t look upon this as a temporary structure. i look upon it as being a permanent structure because the opportunity now presents itself to do something because they re going to make a major renovation with the building, and it is not included in their proposal. thank you. thank you. are there additional speakers in support of the d.r. requestor? seeing none, project sponsor. my name is angela logan, i m the project upon sor. sponsor. the scope of the project is an interior remodel on the ground floor, the purpose of the project is to utilize the ground floor as part of the habitable living space for the unit above, where the
very traffic jam trying to get to treasure island earlier today. we were stuck for about 20 minutes. it took us 20 minutes just to move a block. as you mentioned the problem here is that sand truck which spilled about 100 yards of sand at 2:15, closing two lanes. the clean up is now under way. as you mentioned though not without a hick up. not without that first machine that first sweeper breaking down. as we understand it the estimates of clean up should be completed just after 5:00, shortly. we out here at first street and fulsome street, we talked to drivers who had been in this traffic back up. some of them said they had been here for an hour, and hour and a half. and it only moved about three blocks as you can see the traffic enforcement with the san francisco police are out here directing traffic. we talked to one of them. he didn t have a lot of time to talk to us because he was busy. but he essentially said that this has been quite a day. we re live in san francisco,
