Tallahassee, FL – For the third time under head coach Jen Hyde and the second time in the last three NCAA Tournaments, the FSU Women’s Tennis team is headed to the Round of 16. Florida State started strong and then had to fend off a late push by No. 19 Auburn before taking the match 4-1 to move on to Lake Nona with a trip to the quarterfinals up next.
“That was an absolute battle, which is what we expected,” said Hyde. “It didn’t disappoint. I think today we got tougher and we were forced to get tougher by Auburn. They did a fantastic job. They fought so hard but at the end of the day, we fought a little harder at a couple of spots and were able to hang in there a little bit longer in some of the matches. We came up big in a couple different tiebreakers and in doubles. We overcame some deficits and fought our way back in.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. The No. 4 ranked Florida State women’s tennis earns a thrilling 4-3 win over No. 22 Miami on senior day.
“What an unbelievable roller coaster of a win,” said Head Coach Jennifer Hyde. “I thought we maybe played some of the best doubles that we’ve played so far this season, across-the-board. Miami came out very hot in singles, made a ton of balls, and jumped out to four first sets. But our girls showed some incredible determination and resiliency tonight and found ways to get three more points on the board. Petra was an absolute warrior to find her way back 6 match points down, down 2-5 in the 3rd set to clinch. College tennis…there’s absolutely nothing like it.”

As the sun set over Tallahassee’s skyline, the sky turned pink. It was a picture-perfect setting for rivals Florida and Florida State during their only meeting of the season.
The setting might have been preferable for both teams, but No. 8 FSU came out with satisfaction after a decisive 4-1 victory over the No. 22 Gators. The Seminoles came out on top early with the doubles point advantage and easily handled what UF had to offer, cleaning up 3 matches to clinch the win.
