Malad-based society is under scanner after remains of dogs were found recently
Activists have written to the BMC, the state government and the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) urging them to cancel the licence of Malad-based NGO Universal Animal Welfare Society over ill-treatment and death of
animals.
The NGO, which works with the civic body to sterilise stray animals, came under the scanner recently after remains of dogs were found near its facility.
Later, an FIR was registered. Taking cognisance of complaints, the Animal Welfare Board of India asked the Commissioner of Animal Husbandry to investigate the Universal Animal Welfare Society and take appropriate action as per law against the erring officials and forward the action taken report to it immediately.
