Cyclist dies after collision with shuttle bus on NTU campus

May 04, 2021 Shin Min Daily News A cyclist died after colliding with a shuttle bus at Nanyang Technological University on Monday (May 3) night, local media reported. The police said they were notified of the accident at 8.40pm on Nanyang Crescent towards Nanyang Drive. A paramedic pronounced the cyclist — a 49-year-old woman — dead at the scene. In photos circulating on social media, a blue tent could be seen on a zebra crossing, with four police cars nearby. Police investigations are ongoing.

Cyclist, 49, who died in accident involving NTU shuttle bus, leaves behind husband & son in M'sia

The incident happened at around 8:40pm along Nanyang Crescent, before the junction with Nanyang Drive. The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene by a Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) paramedic. Fell off the bicycle before accident happened The Straits Times (ST) identified the deceased as Wong Siew Yuen, a factory supervisor. What happened The friend, who was described to be overwhelmed with guilt, told Shin Min Daily News (Shin Min) that he was riding in front of Wong and would occasionally turn back to check on her. At that time, they were riding down a slope and the terrain was uneven. Wong fell off her bicycle and an oncoming bus failed to avoid her.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) awarded two civil contracts valued at $263 million each for this yesterday. The contracts are for the design and construction of the four stations and associated viaducts. This is part of the JRL's third phase, which is expected to be completed in 2029.

Two of the stations, tentatively named Jurong Hill and Jurong Pier, are in the Jurong Town Corporation (JTC) industrial area. The other two stations are Nanyang Gateway and Nanyang Crescent, both located in the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) area.
