The partial burn ban in Greater Napanee is now being lifted thanks to a wet spring. Greater Napanee Emergency Services is making this change in effect Saturday, May 15th.
For Open-Air Burning in Greater Napanee, an Open-Air Burning Permit is required. You are able to purchase one online through the Town’s website. Permits are valid for 365 calendar days from the day of purchase.
Once an Open-Air Burning Permit is purchased, residents must call 1-833-411-8482 (the number provided on the online permit registration page) and register the location of the fire before doing any open-air burning. Residents are reminded that open-air burning is only permitted two hours before sunset until two hours after sunrise.
Greater Napanee is currently under a total burn ban.
A Total Burn Ban prohibits lighting any fires in open air and prohibits any activities that may start a fire, i.e. setting off fireworks. All fires are potentially dangerous.
myFM spoke with Randy Cook, Public Educator with Greater Napanee Emergency Services, about when the ban may be lifted.
Greater Napanee Emergency Services strongly advises residents to check with the Emergency Services Department to ensure the Total Burn Ban has been lifted before considering an open-air fire. Any resident not adhering to the Total Burn Ban could face fines up to $200.00 plus liability for the cost of Emergency Services to extinguish an out of control fire.
