The 2023 Assembly elections in Chhattisgarh commenced with the first phase of polling, with 20 constituencies going to the polls. Chhattisgarh has a 90-member house, with most seats located in Naxal-affected areas. Former Chief Minister Raman Singh and State Minister Kawasi Lakhma are among the candidates. In the 2018 elections, the Congress won 17 out of the 20 seats in the first phase.

Around 60,000 security personnel, 40,000 of them belonging to the Central Armed Police Forces and 20,000 from the state police, have been deployed for the smooth conduct of polls in Bastar division which has 12 assembly segments, they said.
