White House Easter egg tradition rolls on at Hayes Center
FREMONT - Dozens of families from throughout the area took part in the return of one of Fremont’s longest-standing and popular Easter holiday traditions this past weekend.
On Saturday, the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library and Museums hosted its annual Easter Egg Roll at the historic Spiegel Grove.
Hayes himself is credited with starting the egg rolling tradition well over a century ago, first hosting children on White House grounds in April 1878.
While it is still considered one of the longest-lasting traditions at the White House, the past two egg roll events in Washington, D.C. — this year and last — were both canceled due to COVID-19.
