THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Following  strictures from the High Court and several complaints of fleecing from different parts of Kerala, the state government on Monday capped the maximum amount that a private hospital can charge from a Covid patient undergoing treatment at a private hospital.The new rates have been enforced with immediate effect, said the order issued by the principal health secretary. The hospitals flouting the rates shall be liable to pay a penalty which shall be 10 times the additional charges.

Representative image BHUBANESWAR: Beds designated for Covid patients in all major hospitals in western Odisha, which has been witnessing a huge surge in infections, and most private hospitals in Bhubaneswar are fully occupied as the state on Thursday witnessed an all-time record of 6,164 positive cases in the past 24 hours. To tackle the rush, the state government has asked all private hospitals with a minimum of 30 beds to reserve at least half of their quota, including 50% of ICU facilities, for Covid patients. The VSS Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (Vimsar) at Burla, Sambalpur, has a 225-bed Covid facility. All the beds including the 50-bed ICU are occupied. “We can admit patients only when someone gets discharged,” said Vimsar principal Lalit Meher. Meher said another 300 beds are in the process of being commissioned.

Express News Service NEW DELHI: The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Saturday fixed the cost of Covid-19 vaccines, set to be offered to those above 60 years and people over 45 years with specified comorbidities, at Rs 250 per shot in private hospitals and also finalised a list of 20 underlying conditions, or comorbidities.  Top sources in the ministry also said that in the beginning, only Covishield, developed by Oxford University-AstraZeneca, will be made available in the about 20,000 private hospitals where the expanded vaccination drive is set to begin.  The list of comobidities includes those having diabetes for over 10 years or with complications and hypertension on treatment. Those with diabetes or hypertension will not qualify to get the shot.Also, people diagnosed with solid cancer since July last year, lymphoma, blood cancer or myeloma, those with HIV and acid attack survivors with involvement of the respiratory system will also be eligible to receive the

City govt hospital s annexe to be opened today

The new annexe of the Government Hospital for Women and Children at Kottaparamba in Kozhikode.   The new annexe building attached to the Government Hospital for Women and Children at Kottaparamba in the city will be opened on Friday. According to M. Sujatha, Superintendent of the hospital, the facility will have 10 labour suites with space for companions, post-delivery wards, special newborn care units, and a patient dining area. The newborn care units would be helpful for those with breathing difficulty and underweight children. The patient dining area will be for patients and their husbands or female companions. There is a passage to the new block from the old block, she added.
