KUALA LUMPUR: The worries and concerns of youths affected by the Covid-19 pandemic will be addressed as best as possible, said Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican.

He said the government had undertaken various initiatives including the National Employment Council, Employment Generation Guarantee Scheme (JanaKerja), National Apprenticeship Scheme, e-Youth programme and Bantuan Prihatin Rakyat as well as empowering the Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to help them face today’s challenges.
“Covid-19 has significantly impacted youths and have caused unemployment and job mismatch issues as well as welfare and security issues for those in the gig economy sector. Other problems include entrepreneurial space and opportunities.

PUTRAJAYA: Programmes under the Youth and Sports Ministry are focused on meeting the challenges faced by youths grappling with the extra burden of the Covid-19 pandemic, says its minister.Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican said this plan of action was not about politics.
“I assure you that my style (of leadership) is apolitical. Our aim is to see how best we can help our youth be aware of their rights as citizens and find their footing in these trying times, ” the Youth and Sports Minister said.

KUALA LUMPUR: As urbanisation grows from 71% in 2010 to 76% now, issues such as income disparity has emerged, widening the gap between the urban rich and urban poor households in Malaysia.
Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican said even though the median monthly income across the B40, M40 and T20 income groups had each increased, the T20 group recorded at least three times higher (income) than the B40 group throughout the period.
“The current pandemic has only aggravated the effects of this further; people are now dealing with a total loss of income, ” Reezal said in his keynote address at the Youth Economic Forum 2021, which took on the topic “Navigating The Future: Towards Future Proofing Our Youth”.
