Attacks on journalists: NA body to summon minister, secretary, Nadra head, FIA DG to next meeting

July 6, 2021 ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting Monday decided to summon Interior Minister, Interior Secretary, Nadra chairman, DG FIA and IG Islamabad in its next meeting with regards to targeting of journalists. The committee, which met here with Mian Javed Latif in the chair, took a number of issues, including PTV and PBC integration, updates on slain journalists and recent incidents of threats and attacks on some media persons. Chairman Committee Mian Javed Latif said if the attack on journalists was a conspiracy of international organisations, it should be exposed and if mistakes are made by the institutions then there is no problem in independent investigation.

APP/Our correspondent ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Shibli Faraz said on Thursday the prime minister has already constituted an inquiry committee to investigate the Broadsheet matter and determine the responsibility within 45 days. The minister said this during the meeting of the National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting, chaired by MNA Javed Latif. While in a tweet on Thursday, Shibli Faraz said that Justice ® Azmat Saeed Sheikh will head the inquiry committee on Broadsheet matter. While during meeting of NA committee on Information and Broadcasting, he said there was no point to summon the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman in the committee at this time. He said as per terms of reference of the inquiry committee responsibility would be fixed and its details would be shared with the information committee.
