A driver crashed into a vehicle on a freeway off-ramp Thursday while leading San Diego police on a pursuit that ended when spike strips brought the driver’s car to a stop in National City, police said.
No one was hurt in the crash or during the pursuit, police said.
The incident began when an officer tried to stop the driver for speeding on north Interstate 5 in southern San Diego about 11 a.m. But the driver kept going, making unsafe lane changes and driving on the freeway shoulder, San Diego police Lt. Daniel Hall told OnScene TV.
A police helicopter followed the vehicle while officers on the ground kept a distance, hoping the driver would stop the “erratic behavior,” Hall said.
