Call to check coal-based power generation

Islamabad December 27, 2020 Islamabad : There was a broad consensus among key stakeholders during a consultative meeting on the need for checking coal-based power generation in the country and diverting 60 per cent of the total energy mix to renewable energy by 2030. The meeting was held at the Institute of Policy Studies to discuss IPS study on barriers surrounding distributed generation with IPS executive president Khalid Rahman in the chair. The event was moderated by former water and power secretary Mirza Hamid Hasan and addressed by Asad Mehmood of the National Energy Efficiency Conservation Authority, Aftab Ahmad Awan of the Planning Commission, Neshmiya A Khan, Hamza Butt and Maryam Arshad of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Zeeshan Ashfaq of the World Wind Energy Association Pakistan (WWEA), Mushtaq Gaadi of the Quaid-i-Azam University, and Dr Azhar Lashari and Haneea Isaad of the Rural Development Policy Institute (RDPI).

Federal cabinet allows interior minister to delegate powers for ECL s amendment By Approval given only to carry out orders of judiciary Federal cabinet also approves 2017 census ECC decisions ratified ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has allowed the newly-appointed interior minister, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, to delegate powers to amend the Exit Control List (ECL). According to a report by  The News, the decision was taken during Tuesday s federal cabinet meeting.  The approval has been given only to carry out the orders of the judiciary but the final approval of the amendment will be sought from the Cabinet, recommended by the cabinet committee - comprising ministers for law, home affairs, and accountability. The secretary for home affairs would attend the meeting upon a special invitation.

Presided over by Prime Minister Imran Khan here, the cabinet also allowed the interior minister to delegate the power to amend the Exit Control List (ECL). This approval has been given only to carry out the orders of the judiciary. However, final approval of the amendment to the ECL will be sought from the cabinet, which will recommend the cabinet committee. The cabinet committee will consist of minister for home affairs and the minister for law, while adviser on Home Affairs and Accountability and the secretary Home Affairs will be able to attend the meeting on special invitation.
