The senate is back tomorrow morning and here our floor speeches about the tax reform bill and daca. Mr. President nt. The senator from maryland. I take the time to talk about pending business. Tax proposal going into a Conference Committee between the house and senate as im sure the American People now know that 2 00 a. M. In the morningno on Early Saturday Morning the Senate Passed its version of tax reformef. Of the house had already done that and we are working on a house bill. The motion before us is to take that bill and send it to a conference. In the late 1980s i was a Foreign Policy aid to senator daniel patrick. I was particularly star struck by one of his aids on the foreign relss committee. One might expect he was smart as heck and knew how the world really worked. Master of the legislative process. The kicker is although he seemed very old, i think he was almost 40. He was always the most fun in the room. Quick with a joke or insight he knew the topics were serious but never took himself too seriously. That was him 30 years ago. Since then shefshed for a decade on the board of supervisors. Half the time as chairman and last nine years a member of congress. Representing virginia. For that time hes been a member of the House Committee on governmental over sight and reform. And a member of the House Foreign Affairs committee where hes a Senior Member of the subcommittee on the middle east and south asia. Hes brought to his role in congress the same qualities that so impressed me three decades ago. Fierce intellect. Willing

After months of trying to find a mutually acceptable date for a hearing, the committee was finally able to get a date with the administrator and we announced it. However last week we learned that the administrator was being summoned to meet with his boss, the president around lunch. Rather than postpone the hearing, or push the entire hearing to a Late Afternoon start time, or try to find another mutually acceptable date. We have come to an understanding of an idea for us to fully question the administrator. We will proceed with opening statements. We will recess at 11 00 a. M. , and reconvene in room 212 upstairs. I will also note that theres going to be a Voting Period in this last block and were going to try, with the help of my colleagues, to keep the hearing going through that vote series.
