MLB roundup: Corbin Burnes sets strikeout record in Brewers' loss to Cards

By Syndicated Content May 14, 2021 | 2:45 AM Nolan Arenado had three hits and drove in a run as the visiting St. Louis Cardinals posted a 2-0 win over the Milwaukee Brewers in the rubber match of a three-game series on Thursday. Arenado’s two-out single off right-hander Corbin Burnes (2-3) in the first inning scored Tommy Edman, who singled to lead off the game. Burnes set the all-time record for consecutive strikeouts without a walk, extending his run to 58 before issuing his first free pass of the season in the fifth inning. The old mark of 56 was held by Gerrit Cole (2021) and Curt Schilling (2002), with Cole’s streak still active.

Ailing Brewers, Marlins headed in different directions

Ailing Brewers, Marlins headed in different directions Field Level Media 07 May 2021, 20:19 GMT+10 The Milwaukee Brewers are two games over .500. The Miami Marlins are two games under .500. Yet, when the teams meet on Friday in Miami, it s the Marlins who will come in all smiles, on a three-game win streak. Milwaukee, meanwhile, arrives on a five-game losing skid. Injuries are a big part of the Brewers story as they have had 19 players placed on the IL. The Brewers, among others, have star outfielder Christian Yelich (back stiffness) on the IL along with both their catchers, Omar Narvaez (left hamstring) and Manny Pina (fractured left big toe); and two of their top three starting pitchers, Corbin Burnes (undisclosed but believed to be COVID protocol) and Josh Lindblom (right knee).

Mets Morning News for May 4, 2021

Zack Scott spoke about the decision to make the change. In the closing moment of last night’s game, the lights went out in a bizarre scene. Jacob deGrom was named National League Pitcher of the Month. The ace will look to continue his red-hot start tonight. A bad trifecta of issues is plaguing Lindor. Despite his struggles, Luis Rojas has no plans to drop Lindor in the order. Prior to the game, Lucchesi was called up to make the start, with Daniel Zamora getting optioned to the minors. The Mets also released catcher Caleb Joseph. J.D. Davis was placed on the injured list, retroactive to Sunday, and Trevor Hildenberger was recalled from the Alternate Training Site to take his place.
