Lafia, Jan. 21, 2021 The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has engaged 260 unemployed youths in Nasarawa State under its Basic National Open Apprenticeship Scheme (B-NOAS) to make them self reliant.
The state Acting Coordinator of NDE, Mr Rotgak Go’ar, disclosed this during the orientation ceremony for the participants in Lafia on Thursday.
He said the gesture was in line with efforts by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to provide employment for the teeming unemployed youths of the country.
He explained that the 260 trainees were drawn from Nasarawa state to undergo intensive three months training in sundry skill sets such as computer, barbing, hair dressing, fashion and design, among others.

National Directorate of Employment ( NDE) has engaged 260 unemployed youths in Nasarawa State in its Basic National Open Apprenticeship Scheme, B-NOAS.
State acting coordinator of NDE, Mr. Rotgak Goden Go’ar, who disclosed this in an address during the orientation ceremony for the participants in Lafia, said the gesture was in line with efforts by President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government to provide employment for unemployed youths of the country.
Nuhu-Fikpo, represented by Malam Shitu Abubakar, Chief Vocational Development Officer, NDE, said 20 trainees were selected from each of the 44 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.
He said that the trainees would be engaged in various skills acquisition programmes under the Vocational Skill Development (VSD) for three months.
“The programme is part of Federal Government’s programmes aimed at reducing unemployment in the country, it is designed for the unemployed, underemployed and the vulnerable people across the country,” he said.
He said that the training was also targeted at reducing the unemployment situation and youth restiveness in the country.
“The programme was supposed to have started in November 2020, but due to some reasons it was delayed until now,” Nuhu-Fikpo said.
The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) on Wednesday started training 420 unemployed youths on various skills under its Basic National Open Apprenticeship Scheme.
